Specifications & Dimensions
Specifications Beam AngleSpecifications
Every light source from an LED to a simple wax candle has a beam angle. A beam angle is a measurement of how the light is distributed. GU10 LEDs and recessed downlights have a fairly narrow beam of around 40 degrees, anything within 5 degrees is classed as a medium beam.
A wax candle or traditional light bulb would have a beam angle of 360 degrees as the light shines all the way around but is less intense.
Combing brighter downlights with wider 60 degree beams allows you to space them out further, reducing the total amount of lights needed.

45 Degrees BrandSpecifications Malmbergs CRISpecifications
CRI stands for Colour Rendering Index. It is a measurement of how well a light source can render the true colour of an object compared to natural light.
Rated out of 100, with an open flame or sunlight being a perfect 100. A light with 90 CRI and above would be classed as having high CRI, while 80 CRI is the standard for LEDs.
82 Ra Cap Type Integrated LED Colour TemperatureSpecifications
Colour temperature is a measurement of appearance. Measured in Kelvins, the lower the rating, the warmer the light appears. Choosing the right temperature can have a dramatic effect on a room.
2700K - Extra Warm White
Similar to a traditional incandescent light bulb or halogen. It has a more orange and warmer tone, with a ‘soft white’ appearance. Ideal for living rooms.
3000K - Warm White
Clearer, but still quite warm. This is the ‘new norm’ for general lighting and is the most popular option. If you’re unsure I’d recommend trying this one.
4000K - Cool White
Clearer, whiter and crisp; used in commercial locations including supermarkets. Cool white appears brighter than warm white as the LED is covered in less phosphor. It can make a room appear cold and clinical but used correctly (white walls etc) it can make a room appear cleaner and modern.

IP (International or Ingress Protection) defines a products level of resistance to dust and moisture. The first digit is for dust and the second digit is for moisture.
Anything higher than IP44 can be used in bathroom zones 1 and 2. IP44 is splash proof and resistance to particles larger than 1mm.
An IP65 rating offers a higher resistance to moisture and is generally used outdoors. IP65 is usually specified for bathroom downlights but according to the Building Regulations, IP44 provides adequate protection.
An IP68 rating is fully water resistant and can be submersed in water, up to 1M in depth.
IP44 Insulation CoverableSpecifications
In order to achieve Part L Compliance (energy efficiency) you shouldn't cut around thermal insulation. If you do this your home or building won't be energy efficient as valuable heat will escape through the hole of the downlight.
A downlight can act like a chimney and draw out warm, rising air from a room, up into the cold space above. The effect is increased in upper floors containing lofts.Insulation coverable downlights allow you to place thermal insulation directly on top of them.More information about insulation coverable downlights.

AC standards for alternating current and DC standards for direct current.
Mains voltage is 230V AC and has a tolerance of 10%, some products are 220V or 240V AC which means they can be classed as mains voltage.
DC voltages usually require an LED driver to convert the mains voltage AC into low voltage DC. Popular DC voltages are 12V or 24V DC.

Ask a Product Question
Ask a Product QuestionHello, I’m interested in two Mini Puck Downlight Malmbergs MD-29 downlights, SKU MD-29, and I’d like to be sure I get the right LED driver(s). Do I need two – one for each light – or can I use one driver such as SKU ECP4?. I’ve not come across constant current power supplies and I’d like to be sure (a) I don’t overdrive the lights and shorten their life, and (b) I don’t over-dim them either.
Question by: Alan on 1 Dec 2022, 18:51The ECP4 would work fine to drive two.Answer by: Mathew Smith (Admin) on 2 Dec 2022, 08:28Yes, the ECP4 would be the recommended driver and it has a minimum load of 2x MD-29 lights:
Each light comes with a plug-in connector, if you also order this connector block, it will make wiring easier:
They're also wired in series as they're constant current, so this connector block essentially connects them in series.
We also have 3 kits of these, that includes a driver 3x lights and connector block:
Answer by: Chris Horridge (Admin) on 4 Dec 2022, 13:51In the white version of MD29 is the recessed surface ring also white?Question by: Adrian on 16 Sep 2023, 07:03Yes the recessed ring will be the same finish as the downlight.Answer by: Mathew Smith (Admin) on 16 Sep 2023, 08:30I’m looking to install 12 of these in a kitchen/diner and ideally would like them to be connected together, so they all turn on at the same time, from two different light switches. Would they be suitable? If so, could you provide me with a ‘shopping list’ of what I’d need to order. Many thanks, JulieQuestion by: Julie on 5 Nov 2023, 10:05If you want all 12 to be switched from 2 different light switches, you'll need 2 way switches which are the more standard version (instead of 1 way).
The easiest way to order is to get 4x kits of 3:
They come with a driver and connection kit for plug & play use.
You then wire them into your lighting circuit.
You could also order 12x separate lights and either 1 big driver, or 2 drivers etc. This driver will power 3 to 11 lights:
This driver can power all 12:
As they're constant current, they need to be wired in series or connected with these:
You'd need 2x to connect all 12.
But the kits are the easiest option.Answer by: Chris Horridge (Admin) on 5 Nov 2023, 10:58I have another question, as these lights are constant current and are daisy chained to each other, does that mean if one light fails, all lights in the series fails? Does using the connector block mitigate this? Many thanks JulieQuestion by: Julie on 23 Nov 2023, 08:14It depends what the failure is. If its a connection issue then it could take out then entire row of lights. But if the LED fails, the other lights will remain on.
The connector block will mitigate this.Answer by: Chris Horridge (Admin) on 23 Nov 2023, 08:17
