Lightwave's New Smart LED Strip Controller: A Simple and Innovative Solution

Lightwave Smart Driver Explained

In today’s fast-paced world, the demand for smart home devices is on the rise, and lighting is a key component in creating a connected and energy-efficient environment. Lightwave has introduced a cutting-edge product that simplifies the use and installation of strip lighting - combining essential elements into a streamlined system. This article provides an overview of their newest innovation in smart lighting control, focusing on how it makes LED strip lighting easy and convenient for both consumers and installers.

Overview of the New Smart LED Strip Control

Lightwave's new Smart LED Strip Controller is designed to address common challenges associated with strip lighting. By integrating a power supply, LED driver, and RF (Radio Frequency) communications into a single, all-in-one solution, Lightwave eliminates the need for multiple separate components. That's right, with this product you don't need an additional 24V LED driver, its mains voltage in and 24V DC out! The device supports both single-colour LED tape and colour changing LED strips including RGB (Red, Green, Blue), RGBW (Red, Green, Blue, and White), RGBWW (Red, Green, Blue, and Warm White) LED strips, as well as tunable white LEDs. This flexibility makes it ideal for a variety of residential and commercial lighting setups.

Not just limited to controlling LED strip lighting, these smart drivers can also control other LED lights that require a 24V DC constant voltage supply. You can then dim, switch and colour change from the Lightwave App or use a smart switch to for scene control.

Stand Out Features

One of the standout features of this product is its energy monitoring capabilities, allowing users to track the energy consumption of their lighting in real-time. This is especially beneficial for users looking to improve energy efficiency in their homes or businesses. Once connected to the Lightwave App it will automatically monitor energy usage. You can then make full use of the App by setting timers to ensure that the lights switch off when not in use.

Key Features of Lightwave's LED Drivers

The new Smart LED Strip Controller is available in two power options:

These models come equipped with numerous advanced features:

  • Easy installation: The device operates at 230V mains input, with no need for an external power supply. It delivers a 24V constant voltage output, compatible with most 24V CV (constant voltage) LEDs.
  • Flicker-free dimming: With a refresh rate of 750Hz, the Smart LED Strip Control offers flicker-free dimming, ensuring a smooth lighting experience.
  • Versatile control: The RF-controlled system provides a strong range of control, and users can opt for manual control or pair it with wire-free switches for additional convenience. Additionally, Lightwave models that are independently wired can complement this system.
  • Dynamic output assignment: This feature makes installation simple by automatically pairing the RF output, making it ideal for both new installations and retrofitting existing lighting setups.
  • Energy efficiency: The LED drivers boast high efficiency, operating at 93% efficiency at full load, and feature overcurrent and overtemperature protection for safe operation.
  • Sustainable design: With a standby power consumption of less than 1W, the system offers an energy-conscious solution for modern lighting.
  • Durability and reliability: The device is IP20 rated for indoor use, has a five-year warranty, and complies with Safety Extra Low Voltage (SELV) standards, making it both safe and long-lasting.

Smart Lighting Control Made Simple

One of the key selling points of this product is the convenience it offers. By combining the power supply and LED driver with RF control into a single device, Lightwave has drastically simplified the process of installing and controlling LED strip lighting. This system is perfect for users who want to enjoy the benefits of smart lighting without the complexities of setting up multiple devices and systems.

The wattage rating is 200W for the biggest driver, this can limit LED tape runs to fairly short lengths, there are ways to combat this by using multiple smart drivers on the same run. For example our high output 23W per metre RGBW LED tape would only power 8.6 metres but you can split up your runs by powering them with multiple smart drivers and positioning them so that they create a continuous lighting effect! This would be an ideal scenario for overhead ceiling lighting in a living room for example, or in a bar or restaurant that wants a system that's easy to control by anybody.

Switching & Controlling

The Lightwave smartphone App can be used for colour changing, dimming and switching but you can also use your voice to control it. Either with Siri on an iPhone or with Alexa, you can simply say "Hey Siri, turn my kitchen cabinet lights to red" and your lights to will turn to red.

Local control can also be done via a smart switch, you can use a wired or wire-free switch and program the button like a scene. A scene for a button could be programmed to switching your lights to warm white, blue or whatever you can think of. You can combine scenes with other lights in your property and switch, dim or colour changing multiple lights all at once either by the App, by pressing a button on a smart switch or with your own voice. You will also require a Link Plus hub which connects the system to your Wi-Fi network.

Conclusion

Lightwave’s Smart LED Strip Control is a revolutionary product that takes the complexity out of smart lighting installation. With its all-in-one design, high efficiency, energy monitoring capabilities, and versatile control options, this device is a perfect choice for both residential and commercial users. Its focus on ease of use, paired with powerful features, makes it a standout in the smart lighting market. Whether you’re an installer looking for a reliable solution or a homeowner seeking to upgrade your lighting, Lightwave’s new addition to its smart lighting range offers a seamless and innovative solution.
