Lightwave RF Gen2 smart switches are available in 1, 2, 3 and 4 gang versions. Currently available in stainless steel or white finishes with others available in the near future. Lightwave generation 2 is new and the product range is currently limited to just a few dimmer switches, the Lightwave Link Plus hub and power sockets. With many more products due out later in 2018.
Gen2 products now have 2 way communication, this means that the App always knows if a device has been activated or deactivated. Gen1 only has 1 way communication. If someone was to manually turn off the lights, the App wouldn't know. As the App always knows what's happening it also monitors energy usage without needing any other accessories.
Wired (230V) Lightwave smart switches can be used as a retrofit solution to replace existing switches or dimmers. Wired smart switches work in a similar way to traditional dimmer switches and can be used to dim or switch the lights on and off. Generation 2 has more functionality than generation 1, each smart switch can be programmed to dim, or switch which includes 2 way switching or dimming. Instead of needing a slave dimmer Gen2 can do 2 way or 3 way dimming which means you can dim the same lighting circuit from 2 or more switches (or locations from the room).
You can now even use non dimmable lights on Gen2 smart switches, or program a switch as a scene controller.
A scene could be anything from turning your downlights on at 50% and your wall lights on at 25%, or it could turn your ceilings on at 25% and switch your smart socket on at the same time.
Wired dimmer switches are wired directly into the lighting circuit, just like an ordinary light switch or dimmer switch and are designed as an easy to install retrofit solution.
Although each dimmer switch can operate on its own, independently of the App or remote controls, to get the most out of this smart lighting system you really need the Link Plus hub which is the interface between the devices and the App. The App then provides many more features such as timers and gives you the ability to check or control your lights remotely from anywhere in the world!
The Gen1 series will still be running alongside Gen2, Gen1 doesn't have the 2 way communication but is even more affordable. You can also use Gen1 equipment with the Link Plus hub.
Voice activated dimming and switch can be achieved in combination with Lightwave RF and Alexa or Google Home devices. This includes Amazon Echo and Amazon Dot. This combination allows you to control your Lightwave RF devices by voice activation without having to open the Lightwave App and also applies to power sockets, heating controls and more. Generation 2 equipment also works on Apple HomeKit, this allows you to control all of your smart products from one App.
