Lightwave smart switches are a range of multifunctional light and dimmer switches that are available in 1, 2, 3 and 4 gang versions.

  • Features

Lightwave smart switches are a range of multifunctional light and dimmer switches that are available in 1, 2, 3 and 4 gang versions. The Lightwave smart dimmer switch collection offers a cohesive lineup designed for style and compatibility within modern smart homes. These intelligent dimmer switches can do a whole lot more than a traditional dimmer switch and are LED compatible.

Smart Series (formally Lightwave Gen2) products now have 2 way communication this means that the App always knows if a device has been activated or deactivated. Gen1 only had 1 way communication, which meant that if someone was to manually turn off the lights the App wouldn’t know. As the App always knows what’s happening it also monitors energy usage without needing any other accessories.

Wired (230V) Lightwave smart switches can be used as a retrofit solution to replace existing switches or dimmers. These smart dimmer switches are ideal for bedrooms, where features like backlit indicators make it easy to locate the switch in low-light conditions. Smart switches work in a similar way to traditional dimmer switches and can be used to dim various types of lights including LED lamps and integrated LED downlights. The backlit indicator is visible when the switch is off, enhancing usability in dimly lit spaces such as bedrooms and cinema rooms. Smart Series has considerably more functionality than Connect (formally known as Gen1) each smart switch can be programmed to dim either as a master or as a slave. This provides 2 way switching or dimming. Instead of needing a slave dimmer, can do 2 way or even 3 way dimming which means you can dim the same lighting circuit from 2 or more switches (or locations from the room). Users can easily set up multi-gang or multi-way configuration options to optimize lighting control.

Smart Series also allows you to program scenes and set timer functions. A scene can be anything from turning your downlights on at 50% and your wall lights on at 25%, or it could turn your ceilings on at 25% and switch your smart socket on at the same time. You can also schedule lighting adjustments based on the time of day for added convenience and energy efficiency.

Wired dimmer switches are wired directly into the lighting circuit just like an ordinary light switch or dimmer switch and are designed as an easy to install retrofit solution. The switches can still be operated manually or offline if the internet connection is unavailable.

You also need the Link Plus hub which is the interface between the devices and the App. Pair the dimmer switch with your smart home system for seamless integration. The App provides many features such as the ability to check or control your lights remotely from anywhere in the world! Remote control capability allows you to manage lighting via smartphone app, voice command, or automated schedules.

Voice activated dimming and switch can be achieved in combination with Lightwave and Alexa or Google Home devices. This includes Amazon Echo and Amazon Dot. This combination allows you to control your Lightwave RF devices by voice activation without having to open the Lightwave App and also applies to power sockets heating controls and more. Smart series equipment also works on Apple HomeKit this allows you to control all of your smart products from one App.

When setting up or configuring the switch, pressing the knob multiple times allows you to switch modes or set up the device for compatible bulbs. Customizable settings, such as memory settings, let you recall your preferred brightness levels.

    More Feaures

Lightwave smart dimmer switches use advanced tech and technology, including the latest wifi chips, for seamless integration with smart home systems. The switches use secure wifi connections and do not require a separate hub for operation. Users can opt for matching smart sockets to create a cohesive and high-end appearance throughout their home. You can expect all the features and quality standards of a high-end, stylish smart dimmer switch.

    Energy Efficiency and Monitoring

Smart dimmer switches are a game-changer when it comes to enhancing energy efficiency in modern smart home systems. By giving you the ability to precisely adjust the brightness of your lights, these smart devices help you use only as much energy as you need, whether you’re using traditional incandescent bulbs or energy-saving LED bulbs. This flexibility not only creates the perfect ambiance for any occasion - be it watching movies, winding down for sleep, or setting the mood for a dinner - but also leads to noticeable reductions in energy costs.

One of the standout features of smart dimmer switches is their seamless integration with popular smart home platforms like Philips Hue, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit. With voice control through Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, you can adjust your lighting with a simple voice command, eliminating the need to physically interact with the switch. This hands-free control makes it easier than ever to optimize your lighting and energy usage throughout your home.

Smart dimmer switches also excel in energy monitoring. By connecting to a hub or network, these devices provide real-time feedback on your energy consumption via a dedicated smartphone app. This empowers you to track your usage patterns, identify opportunities to save, and make informed decisions to further reduce your energy costs. The ability to create custom scenes and schedules means your lights can automatically dim or turn off when not needed, ensuring that no energy is wasted.

Installation is straightforward, as smart dimmer switches are designed to replace your existing switches without the need for extra wiring. This makes upgrading your lighting control system both simple and cost-effective. Plus, with support for a wide range of dimmable LED bulbs and other compatible bulbs, you can enjoy full control over the brightness and intensity of your lighting in every room.

By integrating smart dimmer switches into your smart home system, you gain the ability to adjust, automate, and monitor your lighting with ease. The result is a more energy-efficient home, lower utility bills, and a lighting setup that adapts perfectly to your lifestyle. Whether you’re looking to create the ideal atmosphere or simply cut down on energy waste, smart dimmer switches offer a complete solution for modern living.

Can the led light be turned off? I note that several people say it’s too bright.
Question by: Paul Wynne on 22 May 2022, 08:03
I've checked and the LED indicator lights on this product can't be turned off. I wouldn't describe them as overly bright however, they are not much brighter than a standby light on most devices.
Answer by: Mathew Smith (Admin) on 25 May 2022, 08:25
They can be turned down or off. This requires the Link Plus hub and control is via the Lightwave app (I use iOS so not sure if there is an Android version). There are 6 colour options for the light switch when it is off - it cannot be changed once it is switched on - it's light blue). Lightwave recommend a value of 14% as the minimum the switch light can be dimmed down to, but I use 10% on red and it's fine. Still visible in daylight and not too bright at night time. The AutoOff function in the app will turn switch light off when not in use.

on a 3module smart light switch if one of the modules stops working does that mean you have to replace the whole fitting
Question by: James mcbeth on 7 May 2025, 15:01
Yes, it would need to be fully replaced. I'd recommend contacting Lightwave tech support first to see if they can reset it, or possibly repair it.
